HRR001 : BYRN - DUALITY OF MIND EP
Can you explain the name and idea behind your EP “Duality of Mind”?
“Bounce” is the more uplifting track. It’s full of energy and has that feel-good, dancey vibe that makes you want to get up and move. I had a lot of fun experimenting with offbeat and more abstract drum patterns on that one. On the other hand, “Feared” is darker and more introspective. It’s built around heavy FM basslines and minimal, spacious drums, giving it a reflective but almost haunting quality.
The concept for the EP came together while I was producing the title track. The vocal sample I discovered talks about the power of focusing on positive thoughts over negative ones, which became the foundation for the whole project. The EP explores the contrast between the two emotional states mentioned in this sample—positivity and negativity—and how focusing on one or the other shapes our mindset. The two other tracks, “Bounce” and “Feared,” reflect those opposing energies.

Derby-based producer and HomeRun Records co-founder BYRN returns with his most accomplished work to date — Duality of Mind, a deep and dynamic 3-track EP exploring the contrast between light and dark, reflection and movement.
Built around the central theme of emotional duality, the EP moves between states of introspection and energy. The title track sets the tone with a powerful vocal sample reflecting on the power of positive thought. From there, Bounce brings a lively, off-kilter groove and experimental drum work that nods to a new wave of dancefloor dubstep. The closing track Feared dives into darker territory, with weighty FM basslines and stripped-back percussion evoking a raw, reflective space.
